Tazewell concluded the regular season at 5-5, for their third straight non-losing regular-season, and tied a school record by advancing to the playoffs for the third straight season.
Tazewell lost in the regular season to eventual state champion Riverheads, state runner-up Graham, and final four participant Bluefield. Other regular season losses were to Southwest District runner-up Virginia High and a one-point loss in the battle for the James C. Ramey Sr. Cup. The team showed heart in an early season win against Mount View. In that game, they rallied from 18 points down in the second half to win 22-18 and hand Mount View their only regular season loss. For the third straight season, the Bulldogs won the Back of the Dragon Bowl against Marion. When the Bulldogs defeated Fort Chiswell 34-28 in the longest game in school history (five overtimes), it marked the team’s first overtime victory since 1999. Other regular season wins came against a playoff team in the Grundy Golden Wave and a victory over John Battle during a rare Tuesday night game.
Despite the season ending loss to Central in the first round of the playoffs, it was a season of bright moments and accolades for several Tazewell High School football players.
