Bulldogs and Colonials Square Off Saturday

The Bulldogs make their first road trip of the season when they travel to Colonial Heights, Virginia to take on the Colonial Heights Colonials at 12pm on Saturday.

The Bulldogs and Colonials’ High Schools lie 284 miles apart. Colonial Heights enters off a 21-14 loss to New Kent, while the Bulldogs lost 38-8 to Graham.

The game can be heard on the Bulldogs Radio Network with Chase Collins and Jimi Watson on the call.

Colonial Heights is a Class 3A school with approximately 840 students in their school. The Bulldogs compete in Class 2A and have approximately 515 students enrolled at Tazewell High School.

Last season, the Colonials went 4-6. Head Coach Justin Keeler is entering his second season with the program and the Colonials return 15 starters from last season.

In their week one contest against New Kent, 6’2”, 225 pound RB/LB Daviyon Warner scored on a 3-yard touchdown run. The Colonials 6’3”, 160 pound sophomore quarterback Zamarion Mason also ripped off an 82-yard touchdown run. Ricardo Trinidad a 5’11”, 195 pound senior RB/LB, Isaiah Taylor a 5’11”, 220 pound LB, and 6’2”, 162 pound junior Kenyez Mungro are also standouts for the Colonials.  Colonial Heights defensive tackle Bryant Nowlin stands 6’8” and weighs 390 pounds. The Colonials center Cam Crews is a 6’1” 306 pound Senior.

San Diego Chargers Hall of Famer Bobby Ross once patrolled the sidelines for the Colonial Heights Colonials. Before he was a National Championship Head Coach at Georgia Tech, Ross coached the Colonials during the 1963 and 1964 seasons. Ross went 9-11 at Colonial Heights during his brief stint.

The reason for this match-up this season is both teams faced the possibility of only playing 9 games this year. When Parkview High School merged with Bluestone High School to form Mecklenburg County High School, the Colonials were left searching for a home game in the 2022 season. When Tazewell found out from a third party that Mount View had decided to drop the Bulldogs from their 2022 schedule and instead schedule the Buffalo Bison (0-2), the Bulldogs were left to search for a tenth game.
