
The Tazewell Bulldogs’ season came to an end with a 43-14 loss Friday at Wise Central.
Tazewell finished the season with a 5-6 overall record and a third straight playoff appearance. The Bulldogs season ended at the same place their spring season concluded.
The Mountain 7 top seed, Wise Central used a punishing running game to advance to the region semifinals. Dustin Sturgill ran for 134 yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries. Matthew Boggs added 112 yards on 14 carries for the Warriors.
The Warriors’ defense also shut down Tazewell’s running game as the Bulldogs were held to (-46) yards on 17 carries. The Wise-Central defense also scored a touchdown when Sturgill recovered a fumble and returned it for a score.
Cassius Harris had 11 receptions for 103 yards, setting the VHSL single-season record for receptions with 104. The previous record was held by Nick Matthews, who caught 102 passes during the 2014 season.
Carter Creasy completed 21 of 26 pass attempts for 246 yards and two touchdowns, including an 18-yard toss to Harris and a 50-yard strike to Ethan Mills.
Creasy finished a remarkable freshman season with 234 completions for 2,982 yards and 29 passing touchdowns. During the season, he broke the following school records:
