Coach Dave Litz graduated from Bluefield High School and Bluefield State College. He served as a Tazewell High School assistant football coach for five years. After head coach Mickey Lusk left, Coach Litz was named the head football coach of Tazewell High School in July of 1985. He patrolled the Bulldog sideline for the next 12 seasons. During his tenure as the Bulldogs head coach, he guided the Bulldogs to 6 playoff appearances and the 1986 Group AA Region IV State Championship. The ’86 team still holds the record for most wins (12) in a season.
Coach Litz’s 1992 team finished the season 8-4. During the season in a 67-12 playoff win over Christiansburg, the team set a then school record for points scored in a game. The 1992 team still holds the school record for most points scored in a season (344).
To this day, Coach Litz still holds the record for most wins (66) by a Tazewell football coach and most playoff wins (5).
