Tazewell unable to keep pace in 38-8 loss to Graham

The Tazewell Bulldogs fell behind by 21 points early and never recovered in a 38-8 loss to Graham in Southwest District play.

 

The setback drops the Bulldogs to 1-1 on the season while Graham improves to 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 

1st Quarter

 

Graham opened the game with a 9 play, 65 yard drive capped off by a 5-yard run by quarterback Brayden Meadows. Dylan Nash added the extra-point. (Graham 7-0)

 

Graham scored its second touchdown of the opening quarter as running back Ty’Drez Clements crossed the goal line from 32 yards out. Dylan Nash added the extra-point. (Graham 14-0)

 

Graham scored again on their third drive of the first quarter, when Chris Edwards scored on an 18-yard run with 1:10 left in the first quarter. Dylan Nash added the extra-point. (Graham 21-0)

 

Graham finished the first quarter with 148 total yards on 16 plays. With no pass attempts in the first quarter, Graham averaged 9.3 yards per carry.

 

2nd Quarter

 

Graham’s first drive of the second quarter was a methodical 13 play, 41 yard drive that stalled at the Tazewell 4 yard line. Dylan Nash kicked the 21-yard field goal to extend Graham’s lead.   (Graham 24-0)

 

3rd Quarter

 

Graham maintained momentum with another touchdown on its first drive of the second half as Meadows found an open Chris Edwards for a 13-yard score. Dylan Nash added the extra-point. (Graham 31-0)

 

4th Quarter

 

In full control, Graham went on a 7 play, 55 yard touchdown drive capped off with a 38-yard pass from Meadows to Brayden Watkins. Dylan Nash added his fifth extra-point of the evening. (Graham 38-0)

 

Still in search of their first score, Tazewell backup quarterback Cassius Harris ended the drive with a 14-yard touchdown run. Kaizon Taylor rushed for the two-point conversion. (Graham 38-8)

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

 

Graham outgained the Bulldogs by almost 200 yards offensively (291-103).

 

Tazewell receiver Cassius Harris caught six passes for a game-high 68 yards.

 

Kaizon Taylor and Reece Mullins both finished with 7 ½ tackles. Kaizon had three tackles for loss and Reece added two tackles for loss.

 

UP NEXT

 

Tazewell will travel to play a non-district game at Colonial Heights on Sept. 10 at 12 pm. Colonial Heights is  0-1 after losing its opening game, 21-14 to New Kent.
